ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Elaine’s Art Club began at the Landgrove Town Hall in 2014.    The program was designed and taught by Don Bolognese, the Artistic Director of the ERAF, author and artist of many books, a former teacher at the Pratt Institute, The Cooper Union Art school and NYU. Visiting artists will join during the year.

Elaine’s Art Club is a FREE program with all costs, including artist’s materials, supplies and professional guest artist lecturers covered by The Elaine Raphael Arts Fund.  Elaine’s Art Club is designed as a weekly 2-hour session which runs throughout the school year and  continue for part of the summer.

Elaine’s Art Club

Elaine’s Art Club began a collaboration with The Boys and Girls of Union County at their flagship club in Union in October 2015. Fifteen students were immersed in the classic approach to drawing. Starting with charcoal and then pastels the young artists learned basic drawing technique and sharpened their observation skills through the use of live models and still lives.  The free program provides easels, aprons and art supplies to the students.   EAC red on black

The program was offered to students who have shown an interest in art and demonstrated a commitment to developing their artistic talent. Don Bolognese, ERAF’s artistic director, along with professional artists Malik Whitaker, Jeanne Greco and Ralph Abreu worked directly with the students in this mentorship program.

Elaine’s Art Club expanded to Plainfield and Elizabeth, New Jersey  2016.  In 2017 more programs were held in Rutland, Middlebury and Brattleboro Vermont.  In 2018 the program expanded again to Massachusetts.  Living for a Cause is excited to be working with all these young artists and hopes that this will give them an opportunity to pursue their dreams – just as Elaine and Don did at their age.
